Project objectives & needs The Neighbourhood Organization (TNO) is providing free and accessible educational support twice a week to 7-12-year-old children via their after-school virtual tutoring program. Most participating families are new to Canada and face socioeconomic and language barriers. This poses a significant challenge for parents looking to support their children with educational goals. Our program helps students improve their reading, writing and math skills through virtual sessions so they can achieve academic success. While maintaining discipline, to discuss each academic topic with concerned relevant matter; it is fascinating to hold each student on par based on their individual learning and progress ahead with fairness. Whether it be a one-time gift or a monthly donation, every contribution counts. Currently the program is running virtually and volunteer opportunities are not available. When the program returns to its regular on site service model, volunteer opportunities supporting the tutoring sessions will be available. It will help a newcomer adjust to Canadian culture and lifestyle, give a teenager self-confidence and leadership skills, and may even help a young woman and her children escape domestic violence. How long it will take to get a tax receipt and thank you letter? The tax receipt and the thank-you letter are issued within 24-48 hours of your donation. Can I donate to TNO by cheque? No. This is difficult as CRA expects the charities to follow strict guidelines in issuing Tax Receipts for Non-Cash gifts. Do you have drop-off boxes? No, TNO does not have drop-off boxes. How much are TNO’s administrative costs? TNO's administrative costs are 4%-5%. Do you have a reserve fund for your programs? No, we do not have a reserve fund for the programs. We have a reserve fund for TNO to be used for any eventualities. Who oversees TNO? TNO is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors. How do you decide who qualifies for your programs? We strive to ensure our programs reach those most in need and we have different criteria to assess eligibility for each program. Are the programs you offer also government funded? TNO has a variety of funders, and most of our programs are funded by the government or specific foundations.There are, however, many initiatives and activities for which such funding is not readily available.
